  1. Chelsea 6 Arsenal 0

I thought it was deliberate, and funny! 'Martinet' for 'Marriner'!
  2. Aston Villa 1 Chelsea 0

I know I should let this go, but I've watched the Matic 'handball' (about which I've heard or read somewhere that the ball bounced from his thigh to his arm) over and over again (MoTD in HD, slow-mo, then slowed to 1/8th speed). I'm jiggered if I can see his arm touching the ball, it seems to hit his chest at shoulder height (nowhere near his thigh or arm) and seems a perfectly valid goal, unless the fact that he twists his body slightly to chest it looked from behind like he used his arm. (BTW, it's also clear that Foy points to the centre spot and only later slowly goes back to point to a goal kick, or, presumably a free kick, for the alleged 'handball'.) Clearly, there's something in the rules about handball that I don't understand. And finally, if I can't be sure after watching slow-mo replays about five times, how on earth can the lino see it from behind?

Which was exactly what I texted my Spurs-supporting mate at 6.00pm tonight, except I didn't use the asterisks. My mood today has been exactly 180 degrees from what it was a week ago (helped last week by my Spurs-supporting mate texting me with words to the effect of "Spurs, the team that just keeps on giving"; made me smile).

The co-commentator/pundit on my stream is David Bleat.
  5. Chelsea 4 - 0 Tottenham

Been thinking about the ramifications of Citeh going out of the Cup to Wigan: 1) Who, now, is going to stop the Arses? 2) The (no longer) ongoing distraction of the FA Cup (for them) could only have helped us. 3) The blow to their confidence can only help us vis-a-vis their games in hand. Not sure which of all these is best for us (although I love that the underdogs managed to get lightning to strike twice!).
  6. Fulham 1 - 3 Chelsea

One of the reasons I hang out here (and I read far more than I post) is to get insights into a game (and especially so when we lose or play badly) from people who probably know far more about football than I do (even if they weren't watching Jimmy Greaves, back in the day). There are often views expressed here with which I disagree, but the abuse hurled at some people on this forum is downright embarrassing. If you don't agree with someone, argue your case (or, do as I do, read it and move on, or don't even bother to read it). This is supposed to be The Intelligent Forum: sometimes that quality is fundamentally absent.
  7. Galatasaray 1 Chelsea 1

Watching that clip, I was mightily distracted from TSO's words by the scribbler to his left, who seemed to be writing everything he said (in shorthand?). Clearly there's no need in this day and age for verbatim transcripts, given that anyone can see/hear the recording at any time, so what's the point? Is it in case somebody questions him during the PC and there is then an instant way of checking of what was said, or what?

Here you go. (Hate the DM, but it's a good article.)
  9. Chelsea 0 - 0 West Ham

Particularly painful as every match previewer and his dog said they couldn't see anything other than three points for Chelsea. Sooooo, frustrating...

I know all the rationalising makes sense, but it still feels like a kick in the knackers. Very sad to see Mata go. Can't begin to think of what it'll feel like to see him in a Manure shirt (and spare me the cut-and-paste, please).
  11. Official: Romelu Lukaku Joins Everton

Looks like you're right. Lukaku told The Daily Telegraph last month that it was "unfair to criticise" Mourinho for allowing him to go out on loan as he had asked to do so. "Look, let me be honest about this," Lukaku said. "I did not know if I would be playing for Chelsea so I asked the manager to let me leave. We spoke and I told him. "It's unfair to criticise Mourinho for letting me go because it was my decision. He knows what he is doing. He has won so many titles and I have too much respect for him to wish anything but the best, but there comes a point where you must think about yourself to show everyone that you can shine and be one of the best strikers in the league. "I could have stayed and fought, but it was not about the competition. When you are a 20-year-old you need minutes. I lost my place in the national team because I did not play for a year with Chelsea. "I want that position back. I want to be in a top team and play. You only get better if you play so the best thing was to leave. "He'd called me into his office 10 days before the end of the window. I did not want to tell him what I wanted to do at that point, but he was very open and direct. I always wanted to work under him and even the time in pre-season he taught me lots I'm grateful for but I had to make a choice."
  12. Official: Romelu Lukaku Joins Everton

Came here thinking that somebody would have the SP about Mourinho and Lukaku: News. WTF?
  13. Transfer Talk Topic

Nobody else getting twitchy about the Mata rumours (PSG/Arses)? I must be getting paranoid again (I used to be, but now I know everybody is out to get me).
  14. ^ This made me wonder... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21386626 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/14678931 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/9426939.stm These are just from the last couple of years. http://www.thescore.ie/alex-ferguson-and-the-bbc-finally-settle-their-differences-209783-Aug2011/ " ...and United can now stop paying the fines that have accrued from his lack of face time with John Motson and pals."
  15. Apparently, Old Red Nose has retired as a direct result of his team's humiliation by Chelsea at the weekend... Well, it's apparent to me, anyway.
  16. Media / Press

We're also dire viewing. Watching us now is like watching a 90 minute train crash, but less interesting.
  17. I see old Red Nose hasn't missed an opportunity to ingratiate himself with referees in general, and Clattenburg in particular, whilst at the same time getting in a side-swipe at Chelsea: "I didn't believe it anyway," Ferguson said. "The unfortunate thing for Mark is he's had to carry that stain for the last few weeks and everyone in the game is pleased for him now, apart from Chelsea." I'd be appalled if people fell for this sickening attempt to curry favour... ...too late, I am appalled.
  18. I can't decide if the FA are dithering because they might have realised there actually is a case to answer or they just don't want to seem to have rushed to judgement and are therefore concerned about Peter Herbert, et al.
  19. Just found this and have found myself saying 'Mikel' in a Durham accent (or a close as I can guess it would be, assuming it's not a million tones away from the more familiar Geordie). Could be horribly plausible. Either way, we're damned...
  20. Here's a sneak preview of the FA's independent panel report on the Clattenburg inappropriate language charge: "Based on our collective and extensive experience of life, and having looked at match videos from every angle, we can tell from Mark Clattenburg's general demeanour and facial expression that he said nothing untoward (not that he ever would, as Sir Alex Ferguson has made abundantly clear to us) and thus we can categorically state that Mark Clattenburg is innocent of the vexatious and mendacious charges levelled by CFC."
  21. As always with the crap respect we get from the media in general, this story has been hyped out of all proportion. I was shocked when I heard about Nando's alleged 'outburst' on R5L this morning, but if you read the full transcipt, it reads very differently, and in any case bear in mind that the interview was just after the game, with all the emotions that would have brought up.
