  1. Michael Essien

Well let's hope he doesn't kick Crespo when Italy play Ghana in the World Cup.

quote:Originally posted by west_londonerI missed the tackle when it first happened because I was incensed by the upending of Duff a split second earlier. I've now watched the video on my PC and it was not intentional. Events are: 1 Duff gets fouled and stumbles but manages to poke the ball towards Essien. 2 Referee blows his whistle and runs towards Duff 3 Essien and Gerrard both go for the 50/50 ball 4 Essien, seeing that Gerrard will get there first, lifts his leg to move it out the way 5 Hamann comes in from behind Essien and his leg makes contact with Essien Observations: The referee does not see it. The incident happens to the left side of him because he is running towards Duff. He blows his whistle before the Essien tackle. Essien and Gerrard are running towards each other to get the 50/50 ball. Essien is watching Gerrard and does not see Hamann running in from behind. Just before contact, Gerrard and Essien pull up because they are heading straight into each other (or they hear the whistle). Gerrard can see Hamann steaming in from behind Essien. At the point of contact, Essien is hardly moving and his leg is trailing in the air pointed away from Gerrard. Unfortunately for him it is pointed towards Hamann. Hamann should not be going for the ball after the whistle was blown. id="quote"> id="quote">Great post. Incidentally I missed it when it happened because I too was looking at Duff.

I have a sneaky feeling that the Powers At Be will want to set another 'example'. id="quote"> id="quote">Can they ban him from playing for his country too? I'm assuming if Mr FIFA Blatter is involved this could probably be the case.

  12. Michael Essien

According to the official site we haven't even received official notification of the charge yet - couldn't wait to get it in to the media first could they?
  13. Michael Essien

I don't have a problem with Essien being punished. I just find it depressing that whenever an incident happens on the pitch or off it in the ECL I look at the nationality of the teams involved and can invariably make a correct guess at how leniently or severely it will be punished. I suppose that's the nice thing about this place - every one gets even-handed treatment.

I hear one can get away with tossing the odd motor scooter over a stadium balcony in Italy.

Ching Ching I hear the sound of midfield cover purchase in January
  16. Michael Essien

Amazing how clubs get treated according the country they come from.
  17. Didier Drogba

V interesting. Poor old David Sullivan's not seen much of a return.

quote:Originally posted by GuillaumeOn this french site http://www.football365.fr/depeches/story_9...your-Drogba.shtml , DD says he has still a pain at his right knee, and that he wouldn't have played against 'Boro and 'Pool, but with Crespo injured, he was obliged. He says that he is out of form, and that's why he makes two bads performances. id="quote"> id="quote">Thanks for the link. I'm wondering what is the most consecutive games Crespo has played for Chelsea is. I really like him but for various reasons he never seems to get a long run together at Chelsea.
  19. Michael Essien

The one thing we can all agree on is that it's given us something to discuss because believe me having been in the front row of the East Stand there's little else to talk about... Except for the size of the ar*e of the German linesman. What with him and "peachy bum Kewell" jogging up and down in front of me I must have missed 25% of the "action".

quote:Originally posted by True Blue GaryAs usual, the press has made a big issue of it. Yes it was a bad tackle and I am not denying it. But Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane have done them many times and did not have their name in the back pages! Essien will need to spoken to by Jose as I am sure we all do not want to see that again, but it's good to have someone with a bit of steel. He just need to be a little less agressive, only just a little less. id="quote"> id="quote">Fair point. It's beyond me how Lauren hasn't ended someone's career.
  21. Didier Drogba

As we expected. Still it might quash rumours that Crespo's unhappy about not getting enough games... except he'll probably be injured anyway.
  22. Michael Essien

It was a bad tackle. In fact both tackles have been so bad - I'm wondering if he's actually pulling his leg away slightly at the point of impact because I can't see how legs would not have been broken otherwise. This isn't an excuse - somebody at the club needs to have a word because he is a great player in the making.
  23. Gianfranco Zola

What a classy bloke Zola is.
