Regardless of the context he said it in, considering the "performances" from the refs over the last 24 months that is nothing but a slap in the face.

Not even trying to look impartial.

I keep getting reminded that this selective detail is just typical for all the press on most subjects, not just sport.

Listen to the news tonight and you should here some shocking things that have been selectively not spoken about for over a year.

Filtering.

Slightly misleading, Jane. What the Standard reports is:

"Chief executive Richard Scudamore has revealed that the Premier League will be happy if Chelsea do not retain their title this season.

Jose Mourinho's side lifted the trophy for the fourth time in their history last term but have made a disastrous start to the current campaign. The Blues have won four of their opening 13 games and are languishing in 15th place in the table just five points above the relegation zone. Given the west Londoners early struggles, they are unlikely to retain their crown - bar a collapse by several of their rivals - which is a scenario the Premier League are partial to.

"No disrespect to Chelsea, we like the idea that the champions are not the champions next year," Scudamore admitted. "We like a new name on the trophy every year because it shows the competitive dynamic of the league."

Chelsea are one of five teams to have won the Premier League title since its inception but only the Blues and Manchester United have ever managed to retain their title.

So what Scudapoor actually says is that he likes plenty of variety in the competition, rather than one team being entrenched as habitual winners, even if it is to Chelsea's disadvantage. Of course, we all suspect that he means something completely different, but that is not what he appears to have said.

And he could have added "and we definitely don't like teams (especially ones whose names begin with C and end with E) running away with it by Xmas like what almost happened last year".

Jaycicle, can't spell your own club's name.

Remember Mr Bobblee it is Blackman or Begovic if you aren't wearing the right colours.

And more unbiased reporting from the BBC website.

RED CARD - Tal Ben Haim

Maccabi Tel Aviv 0-1 Chelsea

Posted at 20:26

Tal Ben Haim (I) the former Chelsea defender, sees red for a crazy lunge on Diego Costa. We all know Costa is a wind-up merchant and he has obviously got to his man, as Ben Haim just volleys Costa into the sky. He has to go. Crazy!

Very true. Scudamore also previously said that it was important for Man U to be successful as they are an important part of the EPL brand which is presumably why it was okay for them to win the title for 3 seasons in a row. Vince McMahon eat your heart out.
