FFP doesn't apply to united then?

Not while they don't qualify for a European competition ;-)

^^

Torres has also got the point where they is little to motivate him than money, he has won the major trophies that he can look back at his career and the proud of what he has achieved, all that remains is to add as much as he can to his retirement funds.

All but one. And he's got a bigger chance of winning it here than at Milan or Roma, especially if he's having to lead the line for them.

Presumably Di Maria will get forced into central midfield rather than play as a winger/wing-back? Like he has been for Real Madrid?

I think this 5-3-2 deal they've got going on is temporary due a lack of fit full-backs, but then the only other way I can think of that will get Di Maria in as well as the three of Rooney/Van Persie/Mata (if they're ever all fit at the same time) is wide in some manner of 4-4-2 Diamond. I may be jaded by my own bad experiences on Football Manager, but these days a Diamond strikes me as very much a Bad Idea.

It seems Balotelli was offered a "leave, or rot in the reserves" style ultimatum, and has taken a large pay cut in moving to Liverpool. Some may not like him, either as a person, a player, or both... but give him his due; he wants to play. Torres is just a ****!

Age makes all the difference here. For Balotelli, a lot of future earnings are on the line. Torres will probably earn more in his next two seasons than he will for the rest of his life afterwards.

The highest wages in Italy are just over a quarter of what Torres earns (if I'm not mistaken). Who can blame him? For all his failings as a player, it's not Torres' fault that the club spent stupid money and gave him a ridiculous contract.

What conceivable reason would he have to go to Italy, uprooting his life and family, just to earn a fraction of what he does now? He's one of the best paid players in the world and is probably going to win another few titles in the next few seasons, whether he plays or not. Not a hard choice, from his point of view.

So I bet he's plenty happy.

It is hard to argue with this reasoning.

Yep, they may not have to worry about F2P for a few years... :)

So... Roma and Milan fighting it out for Torres. Apparently they are ready to offer around £8m for him but Torres refuses to leave unless Chelsea pay him the difference between his salary with us and the salary the Italian clubs are ready to offer...

So confirming what we all knew. He's given up on his career a long time ago. He knows he's ****ing **** a hence he'll rather spend two years as our 3-4th choice ahead of having a fresh start elsewhere albeit at less money.

Epitomises everything that's wrong with today's players. Enjoy rotting on our bench blondie. I'd send him down to train with the reserves. Maybe he'll be able to regain some confidence playing against kids.

People will say it's his right to refuse to leave - yes it is. But it also speaks volumes about the man. Money over happiness. Good luck with that.

He would hardly be the first person to opt for holding on to a fat pay packet Dave, plus neither you nor I can be sure that he's "putting money over happiness". On the contrary he seems perfectly happy about it I reckon.

First of all I think you've got your numbers all mixed up. Wildly exaggerated. Balotelli moved from City to Milan and you think he went from £100k+ to around £25k? No - not a chance.

How much you think Ibra and Tiago made at AC Milan? De Rossi and Totti at Roma?

Secondly, money should be Torres least worries. He's legacy as a player should be his main priority right now - that is if he had any professional pride to begin with.

Bang on. Torres is just a leach.

I hope JM privately tells him he better move on or spend the rest of his two year career in the stands. After that it's all over.
