Roma defender Emerson Palmieri is reportedly on standby to fly out to London to seal a move to Chelsea.

The clubs are believed to have agreed on a €25m price for the Brazilian, and are now just trying to work out the structure of the deal.

According to calciomercato.com though, both sides of the negotiation expect the talks to be successful, and the player himself is on standby.

Emerson is ready to fly to London in the next 48 hours, but the Chelsea offer does not include Edin Dzeko, whose agent says he wants to stay in Italy.

Once Emerson is sold, the Giallorossi will move for Manchester United’s Matteo Darmian, according to the website.

If we end up at the end of this window with Crouchy as our only forward addition, we should all turn up at the first Feb game wearing joker hats.

Edit: Forgot Dzekos might not fancy playing for us. I suppose we are dropping down the table, might not make CL football next year, coach has got the knock and might be off in the summer and the vultures will be circling to swoop on the likes of Hazard.....consider that balloon firmly pricked.

I find it surprising that you say this James when you've so consistently stressed how much we need to spend big money and buy for so long now.

James is our resident Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde... did you not know?  😉

Ideally, you'd have big players plus academy products. Right now we probably need a couple of big players. But yes, I'd love a manager to actually believe in the youth and give them a chance. I could get behind that, even if we didn't win anything - because with young players it might take a year or two to mature to be ready. But we have enough experience around them probably.

So that wouldn't be further of evidence of us becoming "Penny Pinching United" then? It sounds like mixed messages to me.

Well I'm getting the picture. This is a complete about-turn nest-ce que pas?

Fixed the French bit for you 🙂

Actually I'm not surprised in the least. If you go back over the last three or four years (longer, perhaps), James goes from angrily denouncing the club/board for being penny-pinching and lacking in ambition, to meekly suggesting that he'd be happy if we won nothing for a few seasons in order to allow "the kids" a chance to become Premiership titans! I seriously worry about his mental well-being.

If a registration ban were imposed I fear that the short-term approach the club's structure encourages means that the same 15 senior players would be played into the ground, rather than providing a rare opportunity for the loan army/academy graduates to play first team football.

Certainly they would.

But it is not the first false claim against us, and I'll be very surprised if it is upheld.
I think the real issue is how the Spanish FA monitor the Spanish clubs.  They seem to get away with anything.  Messi was given human growth hormone, brought to Spain at 13 and his Dad given a job at Barca.  And the whole press still congratulates Barca for being so generous.  No English club could have got away with that in the last 30 years.

Ross Barclay - a snip at £15. Young. Adds a body to midfield. Takes some pressure off Bako, who I think will become a fine player when settled in UK and PL.

Emerson P - would give us much needed cover for Alonso (without putting Azpi or Zappa on their wrong side). Fits the bill in terms of the age profile we like.

For me, if would could get a 3rd forward option to back up Morata (and Bats, who personally, I'd keep here) that would be a good window for me.

My preference would be a forward who can play across the front positions - not a specialist CF.

Merci for the fix and the info. If I understand you correctly you're saying that he's consistently inconsistent?
